May + Russell Architects were commissioned for the design of the new accommodation and support facilities for athletes at the Australian Institute of Sport

The need for a secure compound led to the development of the design concept of “village fort” – a community of athletes centred on life of the main street contained within a central secure “walled garden.”  The facilities include residential accommodation for 144 live-in scholarship holders and live-in supervisors/mentors plus two house-parent units a new dining room, kitchen and residential administration facility.
